Frenchy’s Spring Racing Series: Caulfield Cup

Can you believe it is that time of year again? The Spring Racing Carnival is back, and I attended the most recent racing event, the Caulfield Cup. Seeing as I am also planning on attending a few more race days and affiliated events, I want to share all of my experiences with you in what I am going to call Frenchy’s Spring Racing Series.

To start the series off, I would like to share my adventures at Caulfield Cup, with a particular focus on the most important part of the racing carnival… the fashion!

For anyone unfamiliar with the carnival, fashion plays an important role in the festivities. Not only for women, but also for men. In fact, there is even a fashion competition that race-goers can enter called Fashions on the Field, where huge prizes are up for grabs!

While I was not participating in the Fashions on the Field, I still planned my outfit quite carefully and want to share all of the details with you all!

The Dress

Instead of purchasing an entirely new dress for my first racing outing of the year, I decided to go with an old favourite of mine, the Miu Miu Ribbed Stretch-jersey Mini Dress. What I love most about this dress is the simplicity of it. With only two colours and one texture, this dress is the perfect foundation for any outfit, and can be worn casually or formally, depending on what accessories are paired with it.

I also wore this dress to a racing luncheon last year, so I decided to tweak my makeup and hair to change the overall look of the outfit, while still getting wear out of this feminine frock!

The Shoes

I think you are all familiar with my love of shoes by now! With this dress, I wore Christian Louboutin Bianca Patent Leather heels. I decided to opt for a black heel to compliment the collar of the dress, which also tied in with the fascinator I wore.

The Statement Headpiece

Does it get much better than Philip Treacy? This Irish milliner has designed hats, headbands and fascinators for celebrities, and even the royal family! I invested in this headpiece last year, and purchased it from Net-a-Porter. Its black colour, and mesh netting make it timeless and versatile.

The Classic Clutch

This day was no different to any other event, so I wore my go-to handbag from Chanel. I even got a compliment on the handbag on the day!

The Bling

I wore a Mimco bracelet with my outfit, which I received as a gift for my birthday. What I love most about this piece is the combination of black beads, pearls and a bit of sparkle too. This palette nicely tied my outfit together, and made this the perfect statement bracelet.

Hair and Makeup

I had my hair styled on the Friday before the race day at Maison Tsumiki at Emporium Melbourne. It was done by the lovely hairstylist Emily.

I had my makeup done by Emily from Emdee Makeup, who also did my spray tan. I went with a light pink lip and a sparkly pink eye to soften the outfit.

What We Got Up To

I headed to the races with my parents, as they were also attending! It was fun to see them all dressed up too, so we just had to get some pictures together…

I met my friends at the racecourse and we spent the day in the Stella Artois Young Member’s Marquee. It was my first time at the Caulfield Cup, and I had not previously been to any race days in Caulfield – neither had my friends, so we were in for a treat!

Our marquee was decked out with food, photography, drinks and had a buzzing atmosphere. There was live music to start with, which later evolved to a DJ and by mid-afternoon the marquee became a race-day rave, only stopping for intermissions during each race, and then resuming straight back to the party!

At 6:45pm, buses transported us to The Emerson in South Yarra for an official afterparty, though by this point my friends and I were exhausted. Being on your feet all day is quite tiring, so it was nice to return home to relax!

I highly recommend the marquee to anyone interested in racing, and who wants a fun day out. It gives you a good base throughout the day, and includes many seating options – which, you’ll definitely need if you wear heels! My friends and I had the best day and I am already looking forward to attending more events throughout the carnival.

Are you heading to any race days at Flemington? Leave a comment below as I may see you there!
